Job summary

Steele Memorial Medical Center in Salmon, Idaho, is hiring a Clinical Systems Support Coordinator to serve as the liaison between clinical areas and the IS director. You will determine clinical system needs, evaluate and implement EMR/PACS and other systems, and educate staff to optimize usage.

Role requires 3–5 years of clinical experience, PC literacy, and strong communication/analytical skills. You must be available for night and weekend on-call to assist with urgent issues.

Qualifications

The Clinical Systems Support Coordinator shall act as a liaison between the hospital’s clinical areas and the IS director. This includes the primary responsibility of determining the needs and requirements for clinical applications in acute and ambulatory healthcare settings. The Clinical Systems Support Coordinator will also participate in the evaluation, selection, and implementation of clinical systems (i.e. EMR, PACS, digital imaging, etc.). This individual will work with staff and physicians to optimize the utilization of clinical systems through education and training and providing support in accordance with organizational goals. This individual must be available to share night and weekends on-call to assist with urgent issues on a routine basis.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Act as subject matter expert and resource to others as it relates to clinical systems.
  • Coaches, mentors, and provides one-on-one at the elbow support for members of the organization in gaining and maintaining competency in use of the clinical systems used throughout the organization.
  • Develops and implements strategies to optimize the data management within the medical record and revenue cycle process as needed while balancing support priorities.
  • Identifies and implements applications or workflow process improvements that assist staff in assimilating information technology into their daily practice.
  • Educates clinicians and patients across the enterprise regarding the use of the EMR/clinical systems and associated best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with – and communicate between – the director of information systems, administrative lead, and the clinical community to provide end user support, participate in clinical systems projects and initiatives.
  • Assist with the integration between clinical areas and the IS director regarding the development and translation of business needs, using the appropriate reporting tools and methodologies.
  • Support and train on new clinical systems, such as patient registries, EMR, PACS, interface engines, and other technologies required to be CMS/DNV compliant.
  • Develop training tools/classes that will support the design and successful implementation of clinical applications across the organization.
  • Make accurate recommendations that will inform purchasing decisions for new clinical systems and technologies that meet organizational standards.
  • Manage workflow and business process changes to ensure the success and optimization of new or modified clinical information systems as well as changing regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that new or modified clinical information systems maintain patient confidentiality and privacy, in accordance with HIPAA and HITECH regulations, and DNV-GL standards.
  • Train, educate, and instruct clinical users on features, operation, and usage of software systems.
  • Provide writing and documentation support to capture business area reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures for the usage of clinical information systems.
  • Work with department directors to develop documentation standards as well as policies and procedures pertaining to use of clinical information systems, consistent with organizational goals.
  • Deliver regular reports that clearly communicate the results and/or progress of clinical systems initiatives.
  • Monitor system performance, and report to the IS Director when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur. Make recommendations as needed.
  • Remain abreast of trends and developments in the field of clinical systems and associated software.
  • Continually improves processes and systems to facilitate evidence-based care planning and safe patient care.
  • Acts as a constructive change agent and role model for systems implementation and adoption.
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory requirements and provides advice regarding clinical information system impact on meeting regulatory standards.
  • Develops and utilizes methods of obtaining feedback from system end users. Responds to and follows-up with staff and leadership concerns in a timely manner. Uses aggregate feedback to improve overall systems to enhance patient satisfaction, patient safety, and staff satisfaction.
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of hardware, operating systems, applications, operational analysis and protocols.
  • Supports and actively contributes towards organizational goals for patient safety, patient satisfaction, employee engagement, and fiscal viability.
  • Assist with the answering of the IS helpdesk line and the basic end-user’s support.
  • Rotate in an IS on-call schedule to provider after hours and weekend support as needed.
  • Provide basic patient portal support and assist in contacting EHR portal support as needed.
  • Entry of tickets into clinical systems vendor Support links for new hire builds and as needed.
  • Escalate and/or follow-up on clinical systems tickets related to Steele Memorial Medical Center.

The Clinical Systems Support Coordinator will assist with implementing, supporting and maintaining information systems in clinical areas. Daily activities include training staff in the clinical information system, troubleshooting issues with the clinical information system, and report writing. During the implementation of future modules within the clinical information system, the Clinical Systems Support Coordinator is responsible for process flow analysis for all processes across the hospital affected by these systems, training affected by these changes, and troubleshooting any problems that may occur.

Education and/or Experience

Prefer a Nurse (other clinical backgrounds may be considered) or have prior experience as a Clinical Systems Support Coordinator.

3-5 years of relevant clinical experience required.

Must be PC literate and experienced using Microsoft applications.
