Job description

Department Overview

The Office of Field Experiences creates, promotes, and supports mutually beneficial clinical partnerships between the College of Education and P-12 school districts. The purpose is to ensure teacher candidates engage in high‑quality clinical experiences, grow as mentors, and collaborate on teaching, professional development, and reflection for the benefit of students and their communities.

  • Attend orientation programs for each teacher candidate assigned.
  • Meet with assigned candidates and conduct initial visits to schools.
  • Attend clinical supervisors’ meetings at the beginning and end of each semester.
  • Introduce yourself to the cooperating teacher and school principal during the first visit.
  • Conduct formal observations following the observation chart below.
  • Review and provide feedback on lesson plan schedules.
  • Conduct pre‑ and post‑observation conferences with the candidate.
  • Document each observation: classroom environment, lesson content and method, pupil conduct, and overall contributions.
  • Document each conference with the candidate and mentor.
  • Record the cooperating teacher’s assessment of the candidate’s progress.
  • Read and comment on weekly journal submissions.
  • Notify the Office of Field Experiences if a candidate is struggling and complete a Clinical Intern Action Plan.
  • Provide interventions in collaboration with the cooperating teacher, principal, and candidate.
  • Complete assessment forms through Chalk and Wire by posted due dates.
  • Prepare and submit travel expense vouchers.
  • Complete and return program improvement surveys throughout the year.
  • Notify the OFE office if unable to serve as supervisor for the next semester.
Minimum Number of Formal Observations
  • Clinical Experience (practicum): 2 observations
  • Clinical Practice I: 4 observations
  • Clinical Practice II: 7 observations
  • P‑3 Alternate Route: 4 observations
  • ESL Alternate Route: 4 observations
  • TSD‑E Clinical: 2 observations
  • LDT‑C Clinical: 3 observations
Qualifications
  • New Jersey Department of Education Permanent Teaching Certification.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in the area(s) of certification.
  • Master’s Degree.
  • Preferred: Administrative Certification with supervisory experience.
  • Personal traits: collaborative, dedicated to excellence, effective in multicultural environments, strong moral duty to the work.
Salary and Benefits

Adjunct per credit rate: New employees – $1975 per credit; Employees with 13+ semesters at WP – $2050 per credit.
