The pharmacist will deliver pharmaceutical care, fill orders, monitor therapies, provide drug information, and supervise pharmacy staff. Compensation ranges from $81,706 to $122,553 annually with a median of $102,130 for 0.6 FTE.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy (B.S. Pharmacy).
  • Licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in Minnesota or eligible; must obtain by date of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required for independent work.
  • PALS training required for staff pharmacists staffing independently during Code Blue coverage hours; complete within 12 months of hire.
  • Garbing competency evaluation required at least 3 times in first 6 months.

Description

We are hiring a Clinical Pharmacist. (0.6 FTE or 48 hours per pay period). This is a day/evening position with a rotating weekend shift requirement (every 5th-6th weekend). No on-call requirements!

A Clinical Staff Pharmacist is responsible for the delivery of pharmaceutical care services which maximize outcomes in a manner consistent with the hospital's and department's mission, philosophies, and in accordance with professional practice standards. Fill orders for parenteral and enteral medications, monitors patient drug therapies, and provides drug information to nurses, physicians, patients, patient families, and other healthcare providers. Provides medication reconciliation services and patient/family education for medications. Provides work direction and shift supervision to pharmacy support personnel. May be involved in interdepartmental committees and workgroups that influence medication management throughout Gillette. Other duties may be assigned such as committee leadership, formulary reviews, policy development, order set development, quality data collection and interpretation, MTM (Medication Therapy Management) services. In the absence of the manager, a staff pharmacist may be required to act on such issues as department scheduling/coverage issues, how and if to procure non-formulary drugs, and/or other areas as appropriate based on department needs and expectations.

Compensation and Benefits:

The annual salary range for this opportunity is $81,706 to $122,553, with a median salary of $102,130 (adjusted to reflect the .6 FTE). Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Core Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Delivers patient care, which optimizes the patient’s health status and outcomes.
    • Prepares and dispenses medication orders according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
    • Collaborates with other providers to develop and recommend medication therapy regimens for individual patients, order sets or protocols.
    • Reconciles medications as patients move across the continuum of hospital care.
    • Ensures safe, appropriate, cost-effective medication therapies for patients.
  • Provides customer service in a timely manner exhibiting courtesy, respect, and teamwork that promotes excellence and a positive image of Gillette Children’s and its services.
    • Interacts with all “customers” including patients, their families, and the general public.
    • Educates patients about their medications.
  • Provides drug expertise to other members of the organization.
    • Utilizes the scientific base of knowledge in practice through application and support of research.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of ACPE- accredited School of Pharmacy (B.S. Pharmacy)
  • Licensure or eligible for licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in Minnesota. Must obtain licensure by date of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required of all pharmacists who are scheduled to work independently (those with an assigned FTE). Casual/per-diem/”on-call” pharmacists are not required to maintain BLS.If a candidate holds valid CPR through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of employment.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training is required for pharmacists staffing independently during Code Blue coverage hours; therefore all pharmacists who have an assigned FTE, except for those who are regularly scheduled to work straight overnights, are required to be PALS trained & certified. Upon hire, if a pharmacist is not current with PALS certification, the pharmacist supervisor will assign a PALS training course to be completed within 12 months of hire date.
  • Prior to compounding intravenous preparations or providing direct oversight of compounding personnel, must successfully complete an initial garbing competency evaluation no fewer than 3 separate times in succession within the first 6 months of employment.

Preferred:

  • PharmD degree and pediatrics residency and/or prior experience in pediatrics or hospital setting
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) trained

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal & communication skills as related to patients, families, co-workers, nurses, physicians, others.
  • Must be interested in working with people with disabilities, primarily children & adolescents, and their families.
  • Must be able and willing to work required hours, including off-premise call time as assigned.
