Gillette Children’s is hiring a Respiratory Therapist - Certified for 0.8 FTE day shift in our Respiratory Services Outpatient Clinic in St. Paul, MN. The role involves nitrous oxide sedation, diagnostic testing (PFTs, EKGs) and pediatric-focused care with PALS due within 3 months of hire.

Shifts vary between 7am–3:30pm and 8am–4:30pm. Requirements include NBRC CRT and RRT, MN license, BLS, and PALS within 12 months.

Qualifications

Description

We are hiring a Respiratory Therapist - Certified for a 0.8 FTE day; 4 days/week Monday-Friday (32-hours/week) position in our Respiratory Services Outpatient Clinic. Shifts will vary week to week from 7am - 3:30pm and 8am - 4:30pm. Responsibilities include administering nitrous oxide, performing pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and electrocardiograms (EKGs). Pediatric experience preferred. PALS required within 3 months of hire. This role will require reliable transportation to travel and support both St. Paul Main Campus and Phalen, St. Paul Clinic locations.

The Respiratory Therapist will be responsible for delivering nitrous sedation, conducting diagnostic testing, and supporting the care of patients with cardiopulmonary conditions. This includes assessing and managing abnormalities, as well as promoting the prevention of cardiopulmonary deficiencies.

Pediatric experience is preferred. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required within three months of hire.

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $35.57/hour to $53.36/hour, with a median wage of $44.47/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Primary Job Responsibilities

Patient Care: Provides respiratory care to patients within a family focused setting.

  • Administer nitrous oxide sedation in the outpatient clinic setting, ensuring safe and effective delivery
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient level of sedation; adjust delivery as appropriate based on patient response
  • Perform pulmonary function tests (PFTs) in accordance with established protocols and ensure accurate results
  • Conduct electrocardiograms (EKGs) and recognize/report abnormal findings
  • Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory and diagnostic equipment to ensure proper function
  • Collaborate with providers and care team to support safe, coordinated patient care
  • Adhere to safety, regulatory, and infection control standards in all clinical activities

Active Engagement: Active participation in the respiratory department and in the interdisciplinary work of the departments at Gillette.

  • Represents the respiratory department on a committee or team.
  • Attends outpatient rounds as needed.
  • Attends at least 75% of staff meetings.
  • Presents education after hospital supported seminars and conferences to the department.

Competency in Technology Required of the Position: Demonstrates understanding of the tools and systems needed to accomplish work.

  • Accurate and Efficient Work: Demonstrates accuracy, efficiency, and completeness in products and processes. Performs tasks with appropriate urgency and accuracy while reducing waste through proactive time management.
  • Procedures and Policies Follows established procedures and policies. Protects the confidentiality of personal health information.
  • Ongoing revision of existing policies and development of policies to cover new practices.
  • Abides by HIPPA standards for confidentiality and maintains good professional boundaries.

Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of Respiratory Care education program and certified through NBRC as CRT.
  • Registered through NBRC as RRT. Beginning 2019, new Graduates must be registered through NBRC within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be licensed with the state of MN
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. If candidate holds valid CPR through another acceptable organization (as determined by Gillette), candidate may be able to begin employment but must complete Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association within one month of date of hire.
  • Current American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written, is imperative
  • Ability to analyze problems and formulate solutions quickly
  • Must be accurate, thorough in all therapy modalities and operation of equipment

Preferred

  • Experienced preferred but willing to train candidate with good decision making and critical thinking skills
