DescriptionThe College of New Jersey invites applications for a ten-month, non-tenure track Clinical Specialist in Art Education in the Department of Art and Art Education starting August 2025. The position is offered for an initial two-year appointment, with the potential for renewal for a second two-year appointment and subsequent three-year appointments based on performance. The position carries a 4- 4 teaching load or a 4-3 teaching load with service and advising responsibilities. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate art education foundation, curriculum, pedagogy, and clinical courses and supervising preservice art teachers in K-12 schools.
Minimum qualifications:- A Masters degree in Art Ed or related field (doctoral preferred) at time of appointment
- At least five years of full-time K-12 school art teaching experience as a state-certified art teacher ; and
- Previous mentorship or supervision of preservice art teachers in K-12 schools or college teaching experience of professional art education courses .
The ideal candidate for the position will:
• Be an innovative and dedicated art educator who can model excellence in teaching, foster a stimulating classroom environment, and challenge students in creative ways;
• U nderstand the current trends in art education and issues facing the field of art teacher preparation;
• Have experience designing K-12 art curriculum and assessing K-12 student learning;
• Be committed to supporting efforts toward diversity, equity, and inclusion;
• Be well-acquainted with traditional-route art teacher preparation programs and state teacher certification;
• B e able to work with and establish relationships with K-12 cooperating teachers and district art supervisors;
• Be actively involved in professional development and organizations such as state or national art education associations;
• Be able to problem solve, think critically, and have excellent interpersonal skills, both in oral and written communication;
• Be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable art educator who can inspire future K-12 art teachers and work collaboratively with colleagues to support TCNJ's Art Education program; and
• Have a secondary experience in a related area such as arts administration, drawing, painting, design, mural arts, visual literacy, community engagement, art therapy, or grant writing.
