The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Office of Clinical Operations is responsible for overseeing patient care, providing quality assurance, maintaining infection control, administering regulatory compliance and preserving fiscal stability. The Office of Clinical Operations is an integral part of the School and their primary mission is to provide the highest quality education and training to students and to provide the highest quality dental treatment available for patients.

The primary purpose of the Clinical Services Coordinator position is to provide programmatic, operational, and supervisory oversight for designated clinical support services within the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. The position is responsible for coordinating and administering multiple components of Clinical Operations, including patient records, clinical compliance support, interpreter services, dental assistant operations, dental unit waterline monitoring and testing, clinical incident response, and operational support for after‑hours student clinical activities.

The position provides direct supervision to the Clinical Services Team, establishing work priorities, coordinating activities across functional areas, monitoring operational effectiveness, addressing escalated issues, and supporting employee performance and accountability. The position works collaboratively with Clinical Operations leadership, supervisors, faculty, staff, and other School partners to ensure clinical support services are coordinated effectively and operate in accordance with established University, School, and clinical requirements.

The position exercises independent judgment and delegated authority in the administration of assigned clinical operations and processes, including evaluating operational and compliance‑related issues, determining appropriate courses of action within established authority, coordinating responses to clinical incidents, monitoring waterline testing and compliance activities, and making operational decisions necessary to address identified concerns. This includes authority to restrict use of individual chairs or operatories when waterline concerns warrant action and to coordinate appropriate operational responses. Matters requiring broader clinical, organizational, personnel, or policy authority are escalated to Clinical Operations leadership.

The position also assesses clinical support workflows and operational needs, identifies gaps or recurring issues, and recommends and implements approved changes to procedures, workflows, work assignments, and operational practices to improve effectiveness, compliance, and continuity of clinical operations. The position serves as a resource regarding assigned Clinical Operations processes and facilitates communication and coordination among the functional areas under its oversight.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Supervisory or leadership experience, including establishing work priorities, coordinating staff activities, monitoring performance, and supporting employee accountability.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, or compliance standards within a clinical, healthcare, higher education, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess operational needs, identify workflow or process gaps, and recommend or implement improvements to procedures, workflows, and service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with employees, supervisors, leadership, faculty, and other stakeholders to resolve complex or non‑routine operational issues.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities: This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.

Position/Schedule Requirements: Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens, On‑call occasionally, Overtime occasionally.
