Job summary

Midwest Vision Partners in Flint, MI is seeking an Ophthalmic Scribe to work alongside physicians, dictating into patient charts and assisting with minor in-office procedures. Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7:55am–5:00pm, on-site.

You will perform exam room transitions, document patient workups in EMR, apply eye drops, provide chair-side assistance, review care instructions, and help with tests such as acuity, tonometry, and imaging. A high school diploma and valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive a vehicle.
• Efficient computer skills and typing 40+ words per minute.

Responsibilities

• Bring patients to and from exam rooms.
• Perform detailed documentation of patient work ups and OD/MD comments in the EMR.
• Complete patient encounter forms based on diagnosis.
• Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
• Provide chair-side physician assistance and administer treatment as ordered.
• Review care instructions with patients.
• Complete a detailed patient history including medical history and chief complaint.
• Check visual acuity (far, near, peripheral, depth, color).
• Examine eyes for abnormalities and perform tests (A-scan, B-scan, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII, pachymetry).
• Measure intraocular pressure (tonometry).
• Read eyeglass prescriptions with autorefractor/lensometry.
• Prep exam rooms for treatment and maintain patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
• Demonstrate knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, and medications.
• Stay current with technologies and medications and answer patient questions.

Job description

As an Ophthalmic Scribe you will work alongside physician dictating into the patient's chart and assist physician with minor in-office procedures.
Schedule:Mon-Fri
7:55am - 5:00pm

What you will be working on

• Bring patients to and from exam rooms
• Perform detailed documentation of patient work ups and OD/MD comments in patient's electronic medical record
• Complete patient encounter form based on determined diagnosis
• Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
• Provide chair-side physician assistance and administer treatment as allowed and ordered by the physician
• Review care instructions with patients
• Complete a detailed patient history including past medical history, family medical history and chief complaint
• Check patient's visual acuity which includes far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception
• Examine eyes for abnormalities
• Perform other tests and measurements including A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII and pachymetry
• Measures intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test)
• Read patient's eyeglass prescription with automated lensometry
• Prep exam rooms for treatment
• Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA regulations
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications
• Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions
