Job summary

Midwest Vision Partners in Flint, MI is seeking an Ophthalmic Scribe to work alongside physicians, documenting patient encounters and assisting with minor in-office procedures. Schedule: Mon-Fri, 7:55am–5:00pm.

You will handle patient transport, detailed EMR documentation, perform eye measurements and tests, prepare rooms, and maintain HIPAA confidentiality. The role emphasizes accuracy and staying current with eye care technologies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive
• Efficient computer skills and 40+ words per minute
• Experience as a Medical Scribe and EMR knowledge

Responsibilities

• Bring patients to and from exam rooms
• Document patient work ups and OD/MD comments in EMR
• Complete patient encounter forms based on diagnosis
• Apply eye drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
• Provide chair-side physician assistance and follow physician orders
• Review care instructions with patients
• Record a detailed patient history including medical history
• Check visual acuity and perform eye tests
• Operate A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, pachymetry
• Measure intraocular pressure (glaucoma test)
• Read eyeglass prescriptions with lensometry
• Prepare exam rooms for treatment
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality
• Demonstrate eye anatomy knowledge and ocular medications
• Stay updated with latest technologies and medications

Job description

As an Ophthalmic Scribe you will work alongside physician dictating into the patient's chart and assist physician with minor in-office procedures.

Schedule: Mon-Fri

7:55am - 5:00pm

What you will be working on

• Bring patients to and from exam rooms
• Perform detailed documentation of patient work ups and OD/MD comments in patient's electronic medical record
• Complete patient encounter form based on determined diagnosis
• Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes
• Provide chair-side physician assistance and administer treatment as allowed and ordered by the physician
• Review care instructions with patients
• Complete a detailed patient history including past medical history, family medical history and chief complaint
• Check patient's visual acuity which includes far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception
• Examine eyes for abnormalities
• Perform other tests and measurements including A-scans, B-scans, fundus photography, corneal topography, HRTII and pachymetry
• Measures intraocular pressure of eyes (glaucoma test)
• Read patient's eyeglass prescription with automated lensometry
• Prep exam rooms for treatment
• Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA regulations
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms & ocular medications
• Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions
