Job description

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator(s) and Clinical Research Coordinator, assist in the acquisition and analysis of patient information for multiple clinical research projects. Conduct patient interviews to gather information, prepare and maintain study records, enter data via computer, and perform statistical analyses of the data. Participate in qualitative and quantitative analyses, review relevant literature, and assist in developing research protocols. May perform EKGs, take vital signs during research-based monitoring tests, and handle blood spinning and shipment of blood and tissue samples as required by protocol.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Principal Investigators in coordinating clinical research activities related to the department's field of study and specific research projects.
  • Support research physicians in identifying and following up with patients meeting study criteria, ensuring protocol eligibility.
  • Establish and maintain study records for each participant, including conducting patient interviews, explaining the study, obtaining informed consent, and scheduling appointments.
  • Review medical records to abstract necessary information and follow up on missing data.
  • Monitor adherence to protocols, alert physicians of deviations such as missed tests or medication non-compliance.
  • Perform research-based procedures such as EKGs, vital signs, blood spinning, and shipping in accordance with protocol specifications.
  • Organize and facilitate data collection, entry into databases, and perform computer-assisted statistical analyses.
  • Assist in planning research protocols and coordinate activities of team members involved in the research project.
  • Review relevant literature to support research understanding and development.

Other information:

  • Basic Knowledge: Bachelor's Degree in Applied or Life Sciences or related field, including coursework in research methodologies and microcomputer systems.
  • Experience: 3-6 months of on-the-job experience with familiarity in specific research studies.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and technical ability to operate and maintain computer systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of patient care considering aging, human development, and cultural patterns.
