Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician for the Fairmont Medical Center. The role involves collecting patient information, assisting with pre-certification, and supporting pharmacists in dispensing and labeling medications.

Responsibilities include verifying insurance, maintaining records, and communicating with patients, clinicians, and insurers. Requires licensure per state and preferred national certification or equivalent experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have current licensure as required by the state board where services are provided.
• Nationally certified pharmacy technician (PTCB or NHA) OR two years of pharmacy-specific experience within 15 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Gathers and documents patient demographics, insurance information, needs assessment, patient history and other data.
• Initiates refill/follow-up calls and schedules delivery as needed.
• Assists pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions.
• Maintains patient records in a timely and complete manner.
• Provides medication information and patient education with each prescription.
• Maintains confidentiality and handles demographic/clinical information securely.
• Supports pre-certification/pre-authorization processes and insurance eligibility checks.
• Trains pharmacy technicians and assists in workflow optimization.
• Performs basic compound measurements and logs.
• Ensures proper storage and handling of medications.
• Communicates with patients and clinicians to resolve issues.
• Works with coordinators to develop quarterly objectives.
