Job summary

South Texas Health System in McAllen, TX seeks a Clinical Pharmacist to integrate with the multidisciplinary care team. You will support antimicrobial stewardship, medication safety, and optimized dosing, while handling medication histories and responding to Code Blue/Sepsis/Stroke/STEMI events.

The role includes supervising staff, ensuring regulatory compliance, and stepping in for Pharmacy Director when needed. Texas license, residency, and flexibility are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of a general 1-year pharmacy residency, specialty residency, and/or fellowship or at least 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience.
• Ability to work independently and handle stress appropriately.
• Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
• Ability to set priorities, make critical decisions and respond quickly to emergency requests.
• Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), preferably in both English and Spanish.
• Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations that govern the practice of pharmacy
• Knowledge of pathophysiology, interpretation of diagnostic criteria, pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics
• Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities

• Clinical Pharmacist participates in antimicrobial stewardship and medication safety.
• Assists with medication histories and monitors patient drug therapies.
• Responds to Codes (Code Blue/Sepsis/Stroke/STEMI) and helps prepare needed medications.
• Fills orders for medications and provides drug information.
• Supervises and directs supportive staff; may assume Director of Pharmacy duties in absence.
