Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Pathology Technologist to perform complex clinical laboratory tests in one or more pathology sections. You will calibrate instruments, report results, conduct quality controls, and assist in training students and new staff, while ensuring accuracy and safety across procedures.

Responsibilities include preparing reagents, interpreting test results with physicians, maintaining records, and supporting development of new tests under supervision.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in a lab science such as chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or closely related field or equivalent education and experience per CLIA standards.
• National certification by ASCP or equivalent in relevant categories (ML, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology).
• Eligible for national certification with ABHES/NAACLS training or equivalent.
• Ability to operate equipment and perform procedures within assigned lab sections and interpret results.
• Physical/dexterity requirements to stand at benches and handle specimens.

Responsibilities

• Prepare solutions, reagents and stains per standard formulas and procedures.
• Perform complex tests across lab sections and interpret results; report to physicians.
• Assist in instruction of students and orientation of new staff.
• Perform quality control checks on equipment and reagents; document results.
• Monitor and calibrate equipment; perform maintenance and minor repairs.
• Log specimens and collect blood samples according to procedures; transport to Pathology for testing.
