Job summary

Brown University Health's Pathology Department seeks a Pathology Technologist to perform complex clinical laboratory tests across multiple sections under supervision. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a lab science such as chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, medical technology or closely related field, or equivalent education and experience per CLIA standards.
• One year of experience in a clinical laboratory.
• National certification by ASCP or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, or another recognized category, or eligibility for national certification.
• Ability to operate equipment and instruments, perform procedures, and interpret results with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and determine suitable solutions, reagents and stains; prepare variations for special tests.
• Perform complex clinical laboratory tests across multiple sections and interpret results.
• Type and cross-match blood and ensure compatibility between patient and donor.
• Identify abnormal blood factors and abnormal conditions in specimens; isolate microorganisms for rapid detection.
• Conduct quality control checks on equipment and reagents and document results.
