Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Sr. Medical Technologist who reports to the Pathology Manager and may oversee testing operations in a laboratory section.

The role involves handling non-routine and specialized tests, applying advanced problem solving, and guiding other technical staff. The incumbent will contribute to education of students and residents, stay current with literature, and participate in staff development and performance reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or closely related field or equivalent per CLIA standards.
• National certification (or eligible) in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology by ASCP or equivalent.
• Advanced or Master’s degree work is desired but knowledge can come from experience.
• Ability to operate equipment and perform procedures and interpret results.
• Ability to care for patients considering aging, development and cultural factors.

Responsibilities

• Prepares solutions, reagents and stains per standard procedures; may tailor for special tests.
• Applies advanced knowledge to conduct, interpret routine and innovative tests.
• Participates in research projects and helps develop new lab procedures.
• Serves as a technical resource and guides staff in solving complex problems.
• Reviews relevant literature to stay current on procedures and innovations.
• May contribute topics to journals or present within area of specialization.
• Provides clinical education for students and residents; may conduct formal sessions.
• Participates in staff selection and performance reviews; may perform duties of a Pathology Technologist.
