Job summary

VisionWorks is seeking a Clinical Specialist/Optometric Assistant to ensure a great patient experience by preparing patients for examinations, conducting pre‑exam tests, and explaining each step of the process. You will bridge patients and Optometrists and participate in early patient journey steps.

The role includes both onsite and remote exam support, requires at least 1 year of related experience, and offers training.

Qualifications

• 1 year of related experience in clinical or optical setting.
• Optical or Healthcare background preferred.
• Medical office professionalism required.
• HS diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Training provided will be offered.

Responsibilities

• Register patients and collect medical history and ocular data in EMR.
• Assist onsite doctor with eye exams and explain preliminary tests to patients.
• Support remote eye exams including testing and video conferencing.
• Transition patients to retail staff with doctor recommendations.
• Understand MVC plan benefits and communicate them to patients.
• Preauthorize insurance per SOPs.
• Coordinate appointments and manage exam books with staff.
• Maintain patient records and assist with general workflows.
• Instruct patients on contact lens care and handling.
• Place and stock diagnostic contact lens orders; notify patients when ready.
• Maintain a clean clinical environment and equipment.
