Job summary

Detroit-Wayne-County-Health-Authority seeks a Registered Nurse Manager to oversee internal medicine and behavioral health services. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, you will manage daily operations, supervise staff, coordinate patient care, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive quality improvement to deliver patient-centered care.

The role requires Michigan RN licensure and CPR certification, plus at least two years of management experience.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan.
• Two years of management experience required.
• Two years of recent experience with children and adolescents preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to assess situations and act quickly.
• Proficiency with patient care and office equipment.
• Current CPR certification and valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a State background check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, schedule, and manage Medical Assistants and office staff, ensuring adequate coverage and a supportive work environment.
• Oversee staff performance, address behavior or performance issues, conduct annual evaluations, and facilitate staff development.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and organized clinical work environment.
• Lead daily patient care huddles and annual surveys.
• Provide direct patient care, including nursing assessments, routine tests and procedures, and first aid/medically prescribed services.
• Coordinate and manage care for patients with chronic or complex health needs, including Emergency Action Plans.
• Promote disease prevention and health maintenance through instruction, counseling, and guidance.
• Serve as a resource and advocate for patients and families, maintaining confidential and respectful communication.
• Make appropriate assessments and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as a mandated reporter.
• Collaborate with physicians, providers, interdisciplinary teams, and administrative staff to optimize patient care and operational efficiency.
• Serve as a resource on health issues and communicate with parents and families about patient needs.
• Manage incoming calls, messages, and correspondence.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and accrediting bodies.
• Monitor adherence to federal, state, and local laws, and organizational policies.
• Lead and participate in continuous quality improvement and performance initiatives, including incident investigation and reporting.
• Manage business operations, inventory, purchasing, and operating expenses within budget guidelines.
• Work with finance and administration to monitor site financial performance, process payroll, and achieve patient volume targets.
• Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and oversee general filing systems, patient charts, and required documentation.
• Schedule and coordinate appointments and laboratory services; manage master schedule for providers.
• Ensure security of health center supplies and petty cash/change funds.
• Develop, implement, and update nursing policies, procedures, and best practices.
• Participate in professional development and process improvement activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support optimal clinic operations and patient care.
