Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician (PCT) – Clinical Nursing Student for the Med Surg Unit at West Hospital. The role provides direct patient care under RN guidance to gain clinical experience through shadowing and delegated care within regulatory guidelines.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a nursing program, have completed clinical coursework, and pursue compassionate, high-quality patient care with a focus on teamwork and safety.

Qualifications

• HS/GED (required).
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program and has completed one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required).

Responsibilities

• Works to develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care delivery.
• Seeks out educational opportunities related to nursing practice and critical thinking.
• Provides basic patient care including care and comfort, record vital signs, personal care and hygiene, and mobility, including unit-based duties.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes or concerns to nurse.
• Provides high level customer service to patients, families, visitors and employees.
• Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation for patient care.
• Participates in hand-off/report of pertinent information upon arrival and leaving.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency is validated.
• Participates in patient data collection and documentation (vital signs, intake/output, condition changes).
• Performs basic patient hygiene and care related to ADLs, mobility, feeding, hydration and elimination.
• Utilizes clinical technology as applicable.
• Escalates concerns through the proper chain of command.
