Job summary

UI Health in Chicago, IL seeks a Clinical Nursing Consultant II to develop and implement nursing education programs, coordinate staff development, and enhance patient care using the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care.

The CNC II will provide patient care while mentoring staff, collaborate with Clinical Practice and Professional Development, and lead evidence-based practice projects to improve outcomes. Requires MSN, IL RN license, BLS, ANCC certification or within 6 months.

Qualifications

  • Eligibility for registration with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Two years of nursing experience in the particular branch of service to which assigned, one year of which involved work comparable to a Clinical Nursing Consultant I.
  • MSN (or higher) required of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit specific certifications.
  • Current advanced cardiac life support, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
  • Ability to select appropriate teaching methods based upon the educational and experience backgrounds of employees.
  • Nationally certified through ANCC approved certifier, or within 6 months of hire in an area relevant to their clinical area.
  • Strong clinical experience with background in Medical Surgical or Intensive Care Unit.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between patients, families, and health care providers.
  • Self-directed and works well in groups/teams exercising sound clinical judgement
  • Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in planning and coordination of nursing activities across clinical services.
  • Assists nursing staff to develop effective care plans.
  • Analyzes performance and establishes standards for nursing personnel.
  • Identifies needs and develops improved nursing methods and techniques.
  • Provides guidance on continuity of care for patients and staff.
  • Recognizes symptoms, sets priorities, and responds to changing patient needs.
  • Collaborates with Clinical Practice and Professional Development.
  • Initiates and analyzes evidence-based practice research to improve outcomes.
  • Performs other duties and participates in special projects.
