SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University seeks a full-time Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 to oversee the NS61 IV Team, providing administrative and clinical supervision on an assigned unit. The role includes teaching, orientation, and coordination with other health care providers to ensure safe, high‑quality patient care.

The supervisor will direct care plans, supervise staff, assess methods, and participate in committees to represent nursing needs and establish care standards on the unit.

Qualifications

• Supervisory nursing experience and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of nursing care plans and patient safety standards.
• Ability to teach and orient new staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and supervises nursing services on an assigned unit, including direct supervision of staff.
• Directs the development and implementation of nursing care plans on a unit.
• Provides individual care, and functions as an educator and nursing services expert.
• Assesses work methods of nursing staff and provides feedback to improve care delivery.
• Coordinates medical and nursing care needs with other health care providers and departments; ensures proper functioning of equipment and safety standards.
• Monitors nursing care quality standards and implements corrective actions as needed.
• Participates in medical committees to represent nursing staff needs and care standards.
• Identifies staff training needs and collaborates with unit educators to develop programs.
• Develops orientation plans for new employees and participates in staffing decisions.
