Job summary

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University’s Department of Nursing seeks a full-time Registered Nurse 1, NS61 in Medical/Surgical. The RN provides direct nursing care under supervision and exercises professional nursing responsibilities in accordance with New York State licensure and Education Law.

Key duties include preparing and implementing care plans, administering medications, recording medical notes and vital signs, triaging patients, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Preparing or assisting with nursing care plans per treatment plans and medical needs.
• Carries out treatment procedures, administers medications, and monitors patients' conditions.
• Records notes and maintains medical records including medications, treatments, and vital signs.
• Participates in development and revision of individual care plans as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Triages patients by asking about illnesses/injuries and records findings.
• Assesses findings and initiates appropriate actions or refers to a physician as needed.
• Provides education to patients and families regarding health, medications, procedures, and goals; follows infection control policies.
• May train paraprofessional staff in nursing techniques.
