Job summary

A leading children's hospital in Phoenix is seeking a Clinical Nurse for the NICU. In this role, you will provide compassionate care to newborns facing complex health challenges. Responsibilities include conducting patient assessments, collaborating with healthcare teams, and supervising care delivery. Applicants must be licensed RNs in Arizona with BLS certification. Prior NICU experience is preferred. The position requires strong decision-making skills and excellent communication. This is a night shift role.

Qualifications

Overview

Clinical Nurse - NICU – NICU position in Phoenix. Department: PCH-MAIN | NICU. Posting #: 364444. Employee Type: Varies. Location: Phoenix. Shift: Night shifts; 7:00 PM – 8:30 AM. Category: Nursing.

Position Summary The Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) utilizes a patient- and family-centered approach to provide compassionate and high-quality care for newborns and infants facing complex health challenges. The NICU cares for neonates from the youngest gestations to post-mature infants. Phoenix Children’s has an expert team of neonatologists, pediatric specialists and dedicated NICU registered nurses, trained to manage the most critical newborn cases, including medical and surgical management. Clinical leadership is available on both days and nights to provide ongoing support. The NICU setting requires strong decision-making skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Position Duties

  • Completes nursing assessment of patient conditions consistent with age and condition, including physical, psychological, social, developmental, and educational factors, to determine initial level of compliance with treatment plan per policy and unit guidelines. Performs ongoing patient and family assessments and identifies variations from diagnoses.
  • Continually evaluates patient responses to care, teaching, and discharge plans. Documents patient progress in appropriate charts and shares observations and assessment outcomes with the healthcare team and families to ensure timely communication and understanding of patient health status, progress, and ongoing needs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing required activities within established parameters to ensure compliance with all applicable medication, storage and documentation standards, regulations, and requirements.
  • Provides orientation to the unit, hospital systems, and processes to patients and family members to ensure familiarity with unit’s policies and requirements.
  • Supervises patient care activities of assigned team members and delegates activities appropriate to knowledge, skill, and competency. Provides timely feedback and review of care delivery to ensure maintenance of patient safety, infection control procedures, therapeutic environment, and team members’ performance level, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Works collaboratively with patient care team and family members to establish and implement plan of care to ensure coordination of activities and ongoing communication of patient health status. Participates in patient care rounds and patient care conferences as appropriate.
  • Fosters a positive learning environment by modeling best practices and patient-centered care while providing guidance, training, and support to students and new employees through mentorship, clinical instruction, and knowledge sharing.
  • Performs miscellaneous job related duties as requested.

Qualifications

Education

  • Two-year ADN, BSN, or Diploma in Nursing. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in an RN-to-BSN program is required or in scope.

Experience

  • Do you have at least 1 year of working experience as a Clinical Nurse outside of clinical (education) exposure? (Preferred)
  • Currently have a BSN or are enrolled in a BSN program? (Preferred)

Additional Requirements

  • Current State of Arizona RN license or a compact state license with multi-state privileges, or ability to establish licensure per Arizona law prior to start date.
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association prior to start date.
