Qualifications

  • Two-year (ADN), four-year (BSN), or Diploma Nursing degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or current enrollment in an RN-to-BSN program.

Responsibilities

  • Completes nursing assessment of patient conditions across age groups.
  • Evaluates patient responses to care and communicates progress to the healthcare team.
  • Ensures safe medication handling and documentation compliance.
  • Provides orientation to the unit and hospital processes for patients and families.
  • Supervises care activities and mentors junior staff.
  • Collaborates with the care team to plan and coordinate patient care.
  • Models patient-centered care and mentors students and new staff.
  • Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) utilizes a patient and family‑centered approach to provide compassionate and high‑quality care for newborns and infants facing an array of health challenges. The NICU cares for neonates from the youngest gestations to post‑mature infants. The unit is staffed by neonatologists, pediatric specialists, sub‑specialists, and dedicated NICU registered nurses, all extensively trained and experienced in developmental care, and provides collaborative support at high‑risk deliveries. Clinical leadership is available on both days and nights to provide ongoing support to families and staff. This setting requires strong decision‑making skills, excellent communication and teamwork abilities, and the ability to work in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment. Onboarding and training will occur at our Thomas Campus NICU. Only NIGHT shift is available. Full‑time and part‑time positions are available.

Position Duties
  • Completes nursing assessment of patient conditions consistent with age and condition, including physical, psychological, social, developmental, and educational factors, to determine initial level of compliance with treatment plan per policy and unit guidelines. Performs ongoing patient and family assessments and identifies variations from diagnoses.
  • Continually evaluates patient responses to care, teaching, and discharge plans. Documents patient progress in appropriate charts and shares observations and assessment outcomes with healthcare team and families to ensure timely communication and understanding of patient health status, progress, and ongoing needs.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing required activities within established parameters to ensure compliance with all applicable medication, storage, and documentation standards, regulations, and requirements.
  • Provides orientation to the unit, hospital systems, and processes to patients and family members to ensure familiarity with unit’s policies and requirements.
  • Supervises patient care activities of assigned team members and delegates activities appropriate to knowledge, skill, and competency. Provides timely feedback and review of care delivery to ensure maintenance of patient safety, infection control procedures, therapeutic environment, and team members’ performance level, maintaining confidentiality as appropriate.
  • Works collaboratively with patient care team and family members to establish and implement plan of care to ensure coordination of activities and ongoing communication of patient health status. Participates in patient care rounds and patient care conferences as appropriate.
  • Fosters a positive learning environment by modeling best practices and patient‑centered care while providing guidance, training, and support to students and new employees through mentorship, clinical instruction, and knowledge sharing.
  • Performs miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested.
Education and Experience
  • Two‑year (ADN), four‑year (BSN), or Diploma Nursing degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or current enrollment in an RN‑to‑BSN program.
Licensing and Certification
  • Current State of Arizona RN license or an RN license from a compact state with multistate privileges or the ability to establish licensure according to Arizona law prior to start date.
  • Current BLS certification for Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association prior to start date.
  • AZ RN License OR Compact to Arizona License OR Compact State - Required.
  • Basic Life Support - Required.
