Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five–county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full–service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24–hour emergency care, ambulance services, and more.

The Medical Care Unit (MCU) is a 34 private room floor located on the 3rd floor of the New Duncan Wing. General medical care includes, but is not limited to, the following disorders: gastrointestinal, respiratory, renal, neurological, dermatologic infections.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

• Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on managing their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
• Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. Engages in professional development.
• Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, following established standards of nursing care. Ensures effective communication of the care plan across the continuum.
• Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Considers patient preferences, values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• This is a safety-sensitive position as determined by BJC. The ability to work alertly and safely is essential.

Minimum Requirements

Education

• Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing

Experience

• No prior experience required

Supervisor Experience

• No supervisory experience required

Licenses & Certifications

• RN license

Preferred Requirements
