Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more.

The Medical Care Unit (MCU) is a 34 Private Room floor located on the 3rd floor of the New Duncan Wing. General medical care includes, but is not limited to, the following disorders: Gastrointestinal, Respiratory, Renal, Neurological, Dermatologic infections.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities

1. Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
2. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate patient's physical, psychosocial and emotional needs.
3. Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
4. Evaluates patient's response and modifies plan of care accordingly throughout the patient's stay.
5. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
6. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
