Job summary

Salem Health Hospitals & Clinics seeks a Registered Nurse for its Float Pool, providing patient care across inpatient units from medical-surgical to intermediate care at Salem Hospital and West Valley Hospital.

The role offers diverse, cross‑unit experience with structured training; after one year you may cross-train in the ICU and emergency department. Night shifts, 36 hours/week, non-exempt. Oregon RN license required.

Qualifications

• Requires a BSN or BA in nursing, or ADN with MSN; ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience must commit to completing BSN/MSN within three years of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
• Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as an RN in the State of Oregon.
• One year of RN staff nurse experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs accurate, ongoing, and age-appropriate assessments for each assigned patient.
• Reports and consults pertinent data with the healthcare team and takes appropriate action.
• Demonstrates competency in delivering care based on the individualized patient care plan.
• Initiates and/or reviews care plans with patients and families to address holistic, age-specific needs.
• Adjusts care plans as patient condition changes.
• Documents assessments, plans, interventions, and patient responses.
• Maintains infection control practices and safe unit environment.

Schedule:7:00 pm - 7:30 am, 12 hour shifts, variable scheduled days

Your role with us

As a valued member of the Salem Health Float Pool, you'll play a critical role in supporting a wide range of units across our organization, including Inpatient rehabilitation, psychiatric medical center, and our sister facility, West Valley Hospital in Dallas, Oregon. You'll deliver care across all levels, from medical surgical to intermediate care, serving a diverse adult inpatient population.

This dynamic role offers a unique opportunity to broaden your clinical expertise by working in multiple specialties. You'll receive comprehensive training to ensure you feel confident and competent in a wide scope of practice. After one year of hire, there is an opportunity to cross-train in the ICU and emergency department, further expanding your skill set and career growth.

What you'll do

• Performs accurate, ongoing, and age-appropriate assessments for each assigned patient.
• Reports and consults pertinent data with the healthcare team and takes appropriate action.
• Demonstrates competency in delivering care based on the individualized patient care plan.
• Follows Salem Health-West Valley Hospital policies and procedures for all nursing skills.
• Initiates and/or reviews care plans with patients and families to address holistic, age-specific needs.
• Adjusts care plans to reflect changes in the patient's condition.
• Consistently documents assessments, plans, interventions, and patient responses accurately.
• Anticipates patient and team needs, sharing relevant information proactively.
• Helps maintain a safe unit environment by following infection control policies, replacing sharps containers, removing broken equipment, and using proper lifting and transfer techniques.
• Requires a Bachelor of Science (BSN) or Bachelor of Arts degree in nursing, or non-nursing bachelor's degree with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). Candidates with an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and graduates of a diploma RN program are also encouraged to apply;ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience will be required to sign an agreement committing to complete their BSN or MSN degree within three years of hire.
