Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Medical Technologist for the Lab NB Microbiology in New Brunswick, NJ. The MLS performs complex microbiology testing to aid diagnosis and patient care, upholding quality and safety standards.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field; ASCP MLS/MT certification preferred; and at least 1 year of microbiology experience or graduate rotations. Day shift, rotating weekends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Microbiology, or related field.
• ASCP MLS/MT certification preferred; MLS-ASCP or MT-ASCP or equivalent.
• One year of experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory or new graduates with rotations considered.

Responsibilities

• Performs microbiological testing on a variety of specimens (blood, urine, respiratory, wound, stool) including cultures, smears, PCR, and antigen testing.
• Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation with quality control and calibration procedures.
• Maintains LIS for specimen tracking, results entry, and documentation.
• Participates in quality assurance programs and proficiency testing.
• Follows safety, infection control, and biosafety protocols and uses PPE.
• Trains new staff and students; communicates results with physicians and infection preventionists.
