Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Medical Technician at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. The role supports the Lab MMC Clinical Pathology department with evening shifts and high-complexity testing across multiple disciplines.

Requirements include a relevant bachelor’s degree, possible ASCP/AMT certification, and 1–3 years in similar testing. The position emphasizes QA/QC, instrument calibration, and mentoring junior staff within a team-driven environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, biology, or related field is required.
• Certification by ASCP or AMT as MT/MLS is preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience performing moderate to high complexity testing is preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of complex laboratory testing methodologies and instrumentation.
• Strong ability to analyze and validate laboratory results and ensure QA/QC.
• Ability to train and mentor junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-complexity testing across assigned laboratory disciplines.
• Interpret and validate test results prior to release.
• Calibrate and maintain instruments with advanced procedures.
• Investigate abnormal results and determine root cause.
• Develop and monitor quality control and quality assurance processes.
• Review and update standard operating procedures.
• Train and mentor junior staff and students.
• Maintain inventory and proper storage of materials.
• Handle and dispose reagents and waste per safety standards.
• Carry out other duties and projects as assigned.
• Adhere to RWJBH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
