Job summary

Brown University Health in Providence, RI, is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support in an ambulatory setting under the supervision of clinic leadership. The role supports patient- and family-centered care across pediatric to geriatric populations, following established policies and protocols.

You will prepare patients, perform point-of-care testing, assist with exams, administer vaccines, manage lab orders and referrals, and support scheduling and education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS certification required.
• Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program or 3+ years MA experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations, documents vital signs, chief complaints, and histories in the EMR.
• Performs pre-visit planning by reviewing patient records, test results, and correspondence.
• Performs point-of-care testing (blood pressure, EKG, pulse oximetry, Hgb A1-C, glucose, UA, rapid strep, etc.).
• Assists providers with examinations and procedures using aseptic techniques.
• Administers vaccines and places PPDs per established protocols.
• Tracks orders and referrals; conducts patient outreach as needed.
• Reports abnormal results promptly to the physician or nurse.
• Provides patient education on procedures and follow-up care.
• Schedules tests and follow-ups; verifies demographics and insurance; obtains prior authorizations.
• Maintains clean, stocked exam rooms and medical equipment.
• Assists with administrative duties, patient correspondence, and prescription refills.
• Maintains patient privacy, infection-control standards, and safety procedures.
• Supports efficient patient flow; collaborates as part of the healthcare team.
• Performs other related duties as required.
