Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support physicians in delivering high-quality patient care and offer excellent customer service to patients and the practice.

Responsibilities include assisting with patient care, performing routine procedures, administering injections, educating patients, and handling referrals and pre-authorizations, while ensuring compliance with safety and privacy standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Able to read, write and speak English.
• Basic Life Support Certification required – American Heart Association.
• Completion of a medical assistant certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist with direct patient care procedures and related tasks (lab tracking, data entry, document management, patient histories, vital signs).
• Perform routine procedures such as EKGs, rapid strep tests, urine dip, spirometry, nebulizer treatments.
• Administer injections including vaccines and medications.
• Educate and advise patients within established parameters.
• Schedule, coordinate and track STAT referrals and pre-authorizations.
• Maintain stock levels for medicines and medical supplies; monitor vaccine refrigeration temperatures.
