Job summary

MercyOne in Ankeny, IA is seeking a Full-time Medical Assistant for the day shift. You will greet patients, take vitals, assist providers, collect specimens, administer medications, and prepare exam rooms for care.

Required qualifications include high school diploma, CMA or RMA certification, BLS, medication aide training, and abuse reporting training; a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to multiple MercyOne sites; 2 years MA experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Perform general patient care by following established standards and procedures.
• Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider.
• Obtain and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, drug allergies, and current medications and presenting problem.
• May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via various routes.
• May perform routine tests such as EKGs.
• Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion.
• Communicate with patient regarding test results and plan of care by phone or mail as directed by physician.
• Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment; keep exam rooms stocked; dispose of contaminated items per protocol.
• Document patient plans, tests and results in the medical record as directed.
• Escalate non-routine issues to manager or providers.
• Ensure safety checks/quality controls are completed.
• Protect patient privacy rights.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

CMA certification or RMA certification

Medication Aide 40-hour course or certification

BLS for Healthcare Provider

Mandatory Reporter abuse training

Valid driver’s license

Reliable transportation to MercyOne sites
