Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or equivalent Medical Laboratory Technology Program Degree that meets ASCP or AMT requirements
• Experience: None required
• Licensure: None required
• In lieu of: Bachelor’s degree combined with a medical laboratory certificate/diploma or 50-week military lab training (DD214)

Responsibilities

• Performs analyses using appropriate procedures with precision and accuracy. Operates instruments and equipment, follows QC and protocol. Reports results clearly and verifies validity.
• Verifies patient and specimen IDs; collects and processes specimens properly; labels properly; uses alternate IDs if needed.
• Instructs new employees, students and residents at the bench; documents proficiency and notifies supervisor of training issues.
• Restocks and maintains supplies; keeps work area clean; tracks expirations.
• Reviews logs and worksheets; ensures retention of specimens; completes required documentation timely.
• Responds to safety issues and incidents; follows biosafety levels and universal precautions; maintains patient safety.
• Manages time efficiently; prioritizes tasks; adheres to schedule and breaks.
• Reports critical values per policy and documents verbal reports; ensures read-back confirmation.
• Documents personal CE attendance and presentations; tracks hours per year.
• Completes evaluation objectives and required competencies within set timeframes.
• Completes all required 6-month and annual competencies on time with proper documentation.

Education

Associate's Degree or equivalent Medical Laboratory Technology Program Degree that meets ASCP or AMT requirements

Bachelor's degree in combination with a certificate/diploma in Medical Laboratory Science or completion of a 50 week U.S. military medical laboratory training course (per DD214)
