Job summary

VCU Health seeks a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist to provide accurate and timely testing for diagnosis and treatment. You will perform a variety of complex lab tests, operate and validate equipment, and ensure CAP/JCAHO accreditation standards are met.

The role includes education of staff and students, maintaining supplies, and performing phlebotomy where needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Biological Science with NAACLS CLS/MT program or equivalent.
• Certification within 6 months of graduation for MLS/MT.
• Current certification or eligibility for ASCP/NCA/AMT or equivalent.
• Ability to work rotating weekends and holidays; on-call availability as required.

Responsibilities

• Performs laboratory tests according to established procedures.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs quality control and follows quality assurance guidelines.
• Assists in educating and training laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
• Maintains laboratory supplies and inventory.
• May perform specimen collection and phlebotomy as applicable to location.
• Ensures accreditation standards (CAP, Joint Commission, etc.) are maintained.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
