Job summary

Tennova Newport Medical Center in Newport, TN seeks a Director of Laboratory to lead the clinical laboratory's operations, quality programs, and regulatory compliance, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across personnel and processes.

You will oversee hiring, staff development, payroll, budgeting, and collaboration with hospital leadership, CAP/AABB/CLIA compliance, and off-site testing activities, while driving quality improvement and patient safety across the lab.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology or Physical Science required to meet High Complexity CLIA requirements.
• Master's degree preferred for advanced leadership.
• 3–5 years of leadership experience in a related field preferred.
• Experience with CAP, AABB, Joint Commission, CLIA and other regulatory standards is expected.

Responsibilities

• Completes staff evaluations and competency assessments.
• Oversees hospital-wide and department-specific software and technology.
• Manages department budget and resource allocation.
• Promotes hospital mission and departmental goals to staff.
• Sets performance objectives and metrics for the lab.
• Ensures timely payroll reporting and departmental accuracy.
