Clinical Laboratory Assistant- Phlebotomy Technician

Full Time 40 Hours only, Evenings, M-F 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm with rotating weekends and holidays

Signature Healthcare’s Brockton Hospital is hiring for a Clinical Lab Assistant-Phlebotomy Technician in Brockton, MA.

Our recently renovated Brockton Hospital is a modern healthcare facility focused on superior patient care and safety. Join our team and be part of a facility equipped with advanced infrastructure to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Collect blood samples following laboratory policies in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  2. Register patients as required.
  3. Order laboratory tests as requested by providers.
  4. Receive and batch specimens into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  5. Process specimens for in-house and reference testing according to requirements.
  6. Ensure proper storage, handling, and processing of specimens.
  7. Cancel and request new samples if specimen integrity is compromised.
  8. Deliver specimens to the appropriate laboratory areas promptly.
  9. Load specimens onto the laboratory tracking system, maintaining sample integrity.
  10. Perform add-on testing as needed, following specimen requirements.
  11. Verify patient and specimen identity with two identifiers at all stages.
  12. Prioritize specimens based on testing requirements.
  13. Clarify unclear orders before collection or processing.
  14. Answer calls per laboratory policy, relay messages accurately.
  15. Assist callers and direct them appropriately.
  16. Fax patient results according to policy.
  17. Provide excellent customer service to patients, physicians, and healthcare providers.
  18. Communicate test and collection instructions clearly and respectfully.
  19. Report issues or significant events to management and incoming shifts.
  20. Follow up and document patient and provider interactions appropriately.
  21. Maintain respect and professionalism for all patients, families, visitors, and staff, respecting cultural diversity and communicating effectively.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred:

  • Experience with medical terminology, customer service, and patient registration.
  • Post-secondary education in business or liberal arts is desirable.
  • Phlebotomy (ASCP) or Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required.
