**Job Description:**
Clinical Laboratory Assistant II- Microbiology
Full-Time; Day Shift
Under direct supervision, assists Medical Laboratory Scientists by performing routine laboratory support duties and approved testing across various specialized laboratories within UMMS, including Immunology, Rapid Response (Chemistry/Hematology), Blood Bank, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Diagnostics, Shock Trauma Stat Lab, and Immunogenetics, following departmental procedures and CLIA regulations.
**Principal Responsibilities and Tasks:**
- Review quality control for acceptability and notify technologists before reporting results.
- Evaluate results and specimen integrity based on guidelines.
- Troubleshoot instrument issues with some assistance.
- Perform waived to moderate complexity testing (e.g., serologic detection, blood counts).
- Manage specimens, ensuring proper labeling, handling, storage, and timely processing.
- Communicate with internal and external customers professionally.
- Review pending tests and process add-on testing as per protocols.
**Qualifications:**
- High school diploma or GED; additional coursework in biology/chemistry preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Assistant I or equivalent in a clinical setting.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
- Basic computer skills for lab use.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to handle infectious materials safely.
- Mathematical and statistical competence.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and proper specimen collection skills.
- Knowledge of reagent stability, quality control, and instrument troubleshooting.
