Job summary

Wayne UNC Health Care is seeking a Medical Technologist to perform complex clinical tests across Blood Banking, Clinical Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology. You will ensure quality, efficiency and safety in all duties while supporting neonatal to geriatric patient care.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field, ASCP preferred, and about one year of acute hospital experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field required.
• ASCP certification preferred.
• One year in an acute hospital setting preferred.
• Excellent English communication skills; ability to read, write, and communicate.
• Proficient with LIS, HIS, EPIC, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Perform tests on patient samples following written protocol.
• Perform and analyze quality control procedures.
• Troubleshoot procedures in assigned areas.
• Operate all instruments in the assigned areas.
• Load and maintain reagents for instrumentation.
• Verify and document test results in EPIC or lab systems.
• Call abnormal/critical values to teammates.
• Operate LIS and HIS systems proficiently.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area.
• Assist in training new staff and students.
• Inform supervisors of shortages of supplies.
• Assist in writing procedures for the section.
• Interact with patients and consider neonatal to geriatric needs.
• May serve as Technologist in charge when needed.
• Complete continuing education and required trainings.
• Participate in staff meetings.
• Engage in performance improvement activities.
• Maintain professional demeanor and customer service.
• Maintain safety and apply universal precautions.
