Job summary

Mid-Valley Hospital & Clinic is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician/MLT to perform routine and automated testing across bench areas. The role includes 4/10 hour shifts Fri, Sat, Sun & Mon, 7:00am–5:30pm, specimen entry, and ensuring accurate results for clinicians.

Responsibilities include operating the LIS, performing venipunctures, participating in QA programs, and training MLT students, while upholding HIPAA and infection control standards and delivering courteous patient service.

Responsibilities

• Rotates in different bench areas of the laboratory as assigned.
• Rotations include coverage on evenings and weekends as required.
• Assists with specimen computer entry and processing; familiar with computerized functions to generate test results.
• Maintains clean work area.
• Orients new staff members and assists in training MLT students.
• Provide accurate and reproducible results of routine, complex, manual and automated testing as ordered by clinician and Laboratory Manager.
• Utilizes critical thinking to interpret data and aid in evaluation of test results and systems.
• Report test results within established time guidelines by organizing and prioritizing workload.
• Demonstrates independent problem solving for patient samples, equipment and procedures.
• Recognizes abnormal results and notifies clinician as per protocol.
• Performs quality control programs including evaluation of values, error documentation, corrective action, and record-keeping.
• Participates in Proficiency Testing, continuing education, competency testing, and orientation of staff and students.
• Proficient operation of LIS and other computer systems; stays current with system changes.
• Performs venipunctures and capillary sticks as required.
• Assists in preparation of new procedures and reagents.
• Provides excellent customer service to patients, families, providers and staff.
• Note: duties may be expanded as needed.
