Qualifications

• Twelve months of clinical education/training in a school of Medical Technology or its equivalent.
• Requires three months on-the-job training to become familiar with the hospital's policies and procedures and to become proficient in all phases of the job requirements.

Responsibilities

• Consults with and informs supervisor of activities, needs, and problems.
• May rotate in a minimum of two or a maximum of all departments.
• May act as charge person of a department in the absence of the department supervisor.
• Establishes own work plan and priorities to ensure timely completion of assigned work.
• Comply with established standards and procedures.
• Assemble supplies and equipment and assure proper functioning and cleanliness of equipment.
• Label, collect, receive, and store specimens properly for reference and discard accordingly.
• Record, review, certify, and report test results as required.
• Maintain quality control procedures to ensure proper instrument performance.
• Recognize instrument malfunction and take corrective action.
• Assist in teaching and training of new employees.
• Follow safety standards and use PPE as required.
• Demonstrates respect for dignity of all patients and staff.
• Communicate effectively with diverse customers.

Education

Baccalaureate degree in Medical Technology

ASCP eligible or other acceptable Certification agency
