Job summary

Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a Clinical Technologist to manage all activities with blood and blood components, including logging units, thawing plasma, pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiating products, and preparing samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine. Maintenance of lab equipment is also required.

The role requires experience in Transfusion Service or Blood Bank, a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or MT, and NYS licensure.

Qualifications

• Experience in Transfusion Service or Blood Bank preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or MT.
• New York State license as Clinical Lab Technologist or limited permit/restricted license issued by NYSED.

Responsibilities

• Perform type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification.
• Calculate and prepare blood for exchange transfusion.
• Ensure blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels.
• Record quality control and quality assurance activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
• Ensure all blood components for transfusion comply with cGMP as required by NYSDOH, FDA, AABB, CAP and NYBC.
• Handle other related functions as needed.

The Clinical Technologist is responsible for all activities with blood and blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products and washing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performing type and screen testing, cross matching, and antibody identification
• Calculating and preparing blood for exchange transfusion
• Ensuring blood inventory control is maintained at acceptable levels
• Recording all quality control and quality assurance activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed
• Ensuring all blood components intended for transfusion are in accordance with cGMP as required by NYSDOH, FDA, AABB, CAP and NYBC
• Handling other related functions as needed

Qualifications/Requirements

Experience

Transfusion Service or as a Generalist with prior Blood Bank experience preferred

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or MT

Licenses / Certifications

Clinical Lab Technologists issued by the New York State Education Department; or (b) possession of a limited permit as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or restricted license to practice clinical laboratory technology at Westchester Medical Center issued by the New York State Education Department.
