Job summary

Montefiore Hudson Valley Collaborative is seeking a Blood Bank Clinical Lab Technologist at the Einstein campus. The role involves performing tests on blood and body fluids with automated and manual systems, while maintaining QA/QC and records in accordance with guidelines.

You will help with instrumentation, data review, and training new staff, with hours 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and weekends on a rotating basis. A NYS license and relevant lab experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a physical science or medical technology.
• New York State Lab Technologist license or limited permit required.
• Minimum 1 year laboratory technologist experience.
• Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) and QA/QC procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment.
• Review data prior to release and report abnormal values.
• Maintain quality control data and resolve QC failures per procedures.
• Maintain reagents, inventory, and equipment maintenance logs.
• Train new employees and assist with area leadership as needed.

Overview

The Blood Bank Clinical Lab Technologist will perform routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids using a variety of automated and manual instrumentation in a timely manner. Maintain equipment and records according to department procedures and regulatory agencies guidelines in the areas of QA and QC. Use independent judgment to solve technical and procedural problems. In some instances, ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure. Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed
• Review data prior to release
• Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values
• Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures
• Prepare reagents and take inventory, and advise supervisor as required
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment
• Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary
• May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and may provide leadership for technicians
• Assist with the training of new employees
• Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines
• Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor as needed

Requirements

• Position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred
• New York State Department Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit are required
• Minimum 1 year Lab Technologist experience required
• Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment and other laboratory equipment is required

This position is located at the Einstein campus in the Blood Bank Lab. The hours are 8:00 am - 4:00 pm with alternate weekends.
