Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology seeks a Laboratory Technologist to perform routine and emergency tests on blood and body fluids using automated and manual equipment. The position is located at the Westchester Square campus and requires maintaining records and QA/QC per department procedures.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in physical science or medical technology, NY licensure (or limited permit), and at least two years of lab experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a physical science or medical technology.
• New York State CLT license or limited permit required.
• Minimum of 2 years’ Lab Technologist experience.
• Laboratory and hospital information systems (LIS) and automated equipment experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment.
• Review data prior to release.
• Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values.
• Maintain QC data on tests performed and resolve QC failures.
• Prepare reagents, take inventory, and advise supervisor as required.
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
• Assist with telephone calls and order entry in the LIS system.
• May lead technicians and assist with training.
• Maintain a clean work area per Infection Control guidelines.
• Perform other lab tasks under supervisor direction.

Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites.

Perform routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids using a variety of automated and manual instrumentation in a timely manner. Maintain equipment and records according to department procedures and regulatory agencies guidelines in the areas of QA and QC. Use independent judgment to solve technical and procedural problems. In some instances, ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time is necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure. Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed.
• Review data prior to release.
• Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values.
• Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
• Prepare reagents and take inventory, and advise supervisor as required.
• Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
• Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
• May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and may provide leadership for technicians.
• Assist with the training of new employees.
• Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
• Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor as needed.

Requirements

• Position requires at least a Bachelor's degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred.
• New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit are required.
• A minimum of 2 years' Lab Technologist experience required.
• Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment and other laboratory equipment is required.

This position is located at the Westchester Square campus in Lab Services. The hours are 12:00AM - 8:30 AM with alternate weekends.
