The primary responsibility of the Clinical Laboratory Technician is to ensure the proper collection of blood specimens for established procedures and to assist in their delivery to the appropriate performing laboratory.

Duke Health laboratories are College of American Pathologists accredited and CLIA certified. The role requires basic phlebotomy skills, strong patient communication, and attention to detail. Work is Monday–Friday, 11am–7:30pm, at Duke University Hospital.

Competenze

• High School diploma or GED is required; phlebotomy training recommended for those assigned to phlebotomy.
• Basic phlebotomy and specimen processing techniques are expected.
• Knowledge of medical terms is beneficial.
• Basic computer skills and ability to document and track specimens are required.

Mansioni

• Perform a variety of routine and specialized procedures as assigned.
• Prepare and initiate tests and procedures including urine, cytogenetics, and point-of-care testing.
• Obtain and label specimens; ensure proper patient identification and specimen integrity.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, and healthcare staff to obtain information and provide updates.
• Maintain laboratory records, order entry, and specimen accessioning.
• Perform quality control and infection control procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Assist with maintenance of specimens and slides; assist with office tasks as needed.
