Job summary

Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI), a McKesson subsidiary, seeks a Lab Technician to perform high-level lab processing for patients in clinical trials. You will initiate improvements, process samples per sponsor instructions, and train others in procedures.

You will handle EMR documentation, coordinate shipments, maintain logs, and work closely with research nurses to ensure proper lab kits and specimen collection.

Qualifications

• Vocational or technical training in laboratory processes and/or phlebotomy.
• A current BLS certification.
• Knowledge of organization policies, procedures, systems.
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids.
• Experience gathering and reporting information.
• Experience in venipuncture and blood processing.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work effectively with staff and external sponsor agencies.
• At least one year of clinical laboratory and phlebotomy or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Initiate improvements, tools, processes and forms to enhance the efficiency and the quality of work in the lab.
• Process and ship pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic and all other samples according to sponsor instructions.
• Be the primary processor and trainer for requested procedures.
• Attend the lab portion of the site initiation visit (SIV) when possible.
• Assist in understanding a lab manual when required.
• Prepare study supplies/source documents for obtaining lab samples prior to patient treatment.
• Utilize EMR for source documentation.
• Maintain accurate freezer sample logs.
• Maintain records of sample acquisition and shipping in patient charts and study folders.
• Schedule appropriate courier for sample shipments.
• Ensure adequate dry ice for shipments.
• Respond to queries from study sponsor or contract lab regarding patient/sample data.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and workspace in all areas.
• Interface with Research nurses to ensure labs kits are correct for patient visits.
