Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Six months to one year of experience in Lab Assistant I in a hospital setting.
• Arterial puncture and EKG experience preferred.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.
• IAMTAC within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to work in teams and manage multiple tasks.
• Proficient in blood specimen procurement and data entry.
• Knowledge of safety precautions and policy adherence.

Responsibilities

• Procures venous, arterial and capillary blood samples.
• Processes specimens and operates lab equipment as needed.
• Answers calls and routes messages; uses Vocera/beepers for communication.
• Performs electrocardiograms.
• Assists Clinical Lab Scientists and prepares supplies and equipment.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area and proper disposal of sharps and wastes.
• May perform outpatient registration for drop-off specimens.
• Monitors lab reports with nursing/physician teams for timely review.
