Job summary

UCI Health seeks a qualified laboratory technician to perform the full range of transfusion medicine duties under supervision. Responsibilities include specimen procurement through processing and testing, and assisting in equipment maintenance, quality control, and inventory management of blood products and tissue for transfusion.

Qualifications

• One year clinical laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
• Must be willing to provide weekend and holiday coverage on a rotational basis and variable shift assignment(s) as needed
• Good communication skills
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
• Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
• Minimum 16 units of applicable Science (Chemistry, Biology) and Algebra at the college level
• Good computer skills including knowledge of various software applications

Responsibilities

• Perform specimen and/or blood/blood component processing and testing according to established protocols.
• Assist in equipment maintenance, quality control, inventory control and tissue allocation for transfusion medicine.
• Handle data entry, record-keeping, answering phones and providing results.
