Job summary

The UW Medicine - Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology in Seattle, WA has a great opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Technician (CLT) 1 with the Specimen Procurement Team at Harborview Medical Center. You will assist in specimen processing, phlebotomy, and provide excellent customer service to patients and staff, contributing to timely, accurate diagnoses.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience.
• Completion of a laboratory assistant course approved by the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Responsibilities

• Perform Specimen Processing Activities: receiving, sorting, prioritizing specimens; match with requisitions; centrifuging and aliquoting; process timed urine collections; enter results; perform computer tasks.
• Perform Phlebotomy Activities: venipuncture and capillary blood collection for inpatients and outpatients.
• Perform Customer Service: respond to inquiries from patients and staff; educate patients on specimen collection.
• Share Your Knowledge: orient/train new employees; participate in performance improvement; support accreditation standards.
• Utilize Problem-Solving Skills: resolve specimen/order problems; document for supervisor review.
