Job summary

Stanford Health Care is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support pre-analytical operations. You will accession patient information, verify requests, and distribute samples within the laboratory while maintaining accuracy and timely processing.

The role involves assisting with media and reagent prep, training new staff, and coordinating with physicians and units to ensure proper sample handling and test reporting.

Qualifications

• Ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of professional staff.
• Ability to organize, prioritize, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique and basic lab procedures.

Responsibilities

• Accessions patient information accurately into the Laboratory computer system.
• Check requests for proper and accurate patient information.
• Notify physicians or units when samples are inappropriate or compromised.
• Process samples and route to appropriate areas; distribute STAT requests promptly.
• Answer phones and respond to inquiries regarding test status and results.
• Assist with media prep, reagent prep, and glassware prep as requested.
• Maintain logs, records, and data neatly and accurately.
• Provide orientation and training to Lab Assistants.
