Job summary

BRCC in Blacksburg, VA is seeking a laboratory technologist to perform moderate and high complexity testing, maintain instruments, and oversee quality control procedures. You will be responsible for specimen analysis across Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology and assist with patient flow.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field; state licensure as required; AMT/ASCP certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related health care field.
• AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred.
• Licensure and certification requirements depend on the state.
• Except for grandfathered situations, bachelor’s degree in medical technology required.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen analysis of Chemistry, Hematology and Immunology specimens.
• Assists with phlebotomy and specimen collection.
• Maintains and operates laboratory equipment and performs routine maintenance.
• Follows QC policies and documents calibrations and maintenance.
• Prepares reagents and restocks the laboratory area.
• Send specimens to reference laboratories as needed.
• Trains employees in laboratory procedures.
• May act as primary operator for at least one laboratory instrument.
• Comply with OSHA and universal precautions.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related health care field

AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred
