Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide technical support in the Core Laboratory, performing chemistry, hematology, urinalysis and coagulation testing for hospital and clinic patients.

The role requires a BS in a medical lab field and ASCP certification or equivalent within 90 days, with supervision as needed and training for new staff. Expect routine instrument maintenance and data reporting in a dynamic lab setting.

Qualifications

• General lab knowledge of terminology, equipment and safety.
• Ability to handle specimens, record-keeping and equipment.
• Ability to identify cells and cell morphology.
• Experience using LIS/HIS and related software.
• Follow written and oral instructions accurately in testing.
• Work independently within guidelines and adapt to priorities.
• Ability to train trainees and evaluate performance.
• Maintain integrity and professionalism in testing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Performs testing in Core Laboratory sections with accuracy and speed.
• Prepares samples, determines acceptability, and reports results.
• Uses HL 780, ABL, Siemens Vista, Stago, Iris equipment.
• Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots instruments and procedures.
• Trains new employees, students and residents.
• Reviews quality control data and discusses with technical coordinator.
• Operates computer systems including LIS/HIS and EPIC.
• Responds to laboratory information requests via phone/computer.
