Job summary

Medical University of South Carolina is seeking a PRN phlebotomy technician to perform venipuncture and capillary collections for patients of all ages, following universal precautions and established protocols.

You will enter patient demographics and assays into computer systems, ensure proper specimen handling, maintain supplies, and participate in training sessions as requested. Education requires a high school diploma or equivalent; a phlebotomy certificate is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: 0 - 6 months.
• Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred.
• State licensure and/or professional certification requirement dependent on position.

Responsibilities

• Provide venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders by a physician, while practicing universal precautions.
• Accurate data entry of patient demographics and assays into computer applications; maintain lab documents.
• Proper processing and handling of specimens per MUSCP/MUSCP-PC guidelines; document remedial actions.
• Maintain medical supplies per cost-effective parameters.
• Decontaminate assigned areas and document information.
• Attend in-services, meetings, and participate in committees and continuing education.
